Using up-to-date implements of the 1860s, a Kelley Farm guide cultivates Improved King Philip corn. Faced with the prospect of hoeing a five-acre corn field, visitors quickly learn the advantages of horse-drawn farm implements.


Our hayfields are planted with red clover and timothy grass. Horse-drawn mowers available in the 1860s could cut 10 acres of hay in a day. One farm laborer with a hand scythe could cut only one or two acres in a day.
