Diary entries by Matthew Marvin, Corporal in the 1st Minnesota Regiment who was wounded at Gettysburg. Marvin is convalescing at the United States Marine Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. On March 14 he writes: “Was paid to day by Maj[.]  Hagt. Sherman[.] Recd check for 20[.]00[.] Weather pleasant Snow[.]“ Marvin spent March 1-7 at home, after being granted a short leave, where he spent most of his time with family and visiting friends and neighbors.
