Each day before sunrise, millions of women in southeast Asia create intricate designs made of rice flour on the ground in front of their homes. Known as Kolams, this daily ritual creates a sacred space that becomes the link between the intimate home and the vastness of the outside world.

Ragamala Dance Company artists will introduce participants to the history and background of Kolam and its philosophy of interconnectedness between humanity and nature. Participants will learn to draw several Kolam designs on paper, and then create them with rice flour on the floor to experience the traditional method.

This workshop takes places at 5 pm and 6:30 pm.

During Asian Pacific Heritage Month, the Minnesota History Center is partnering with Ragamala Dance Company on several programs to celebrate the company's 25th anniversary season.
