Have a drink with friends while learning about Minnesota history in the beautiful setting of the Sibley Historic Site. A new topic will be offered each month.
In July, discover the history of rock 'n' roll in Minnesota from Rick Shefchik, a musician and music writer since the 1960s and author of Everybody's Heard About the Bird: The True Story of 1960s Rock 'n' Roll in Minnesota. Hear about Minnesota's music scene from St. Paul's Augie Garcia to Fargo's Bobby Vee. Shefchik traces the roots of rock and the explosion of '60s bands like the Trashmen, Gestures, Castaways, and Underbeats, and he explains how local bands became regionally and nationally famous through Top 40 radio, new recording studios, and weekend teen dances.
Doors open at 5:30 pm, and the presentation begins at 6 pm. Light food and one drink ticket will be provided with each paid admission for ages 21 and up. This program is presented by the Dakota County Historical Society.
