Have a drink with friends while learning about Minnesota history in the beautiful setting of the Sibley Historic Site. A new topic will be offered each month.
Even before the Sibleys' time and for many decades afterward, the alcohol trade and saloons, in particular, fueled the region's economy and helped define its culture. In May, Tom Schroeder, the owner and restorer of the recently reopened Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery in St. Paul, will discuss the history of early saloons in St. Paul, including their regulation, sometimes colorful owners, the impact of the Temperance movement, and how a humble lager yeast from Germany changed the drinking habits of Americans forever.
Doors open at 5:30 pm, and the presentation begins at 6 pm. Light food and one drink ticket will be provided with each paid admission for ages 21 and up. This program is offered by the Dakota County Historical Society.
