In this autobiographical multimedia piece, Ifrah Mansour explores Somalia's civil war through the eyes of a seven-year-old girl. Layering poetry, puppetry, video, and interviews, Mansour confronts violent history with humor, offering all Minnesotans a chance to reach across differences for hope and healing.
Performances will be followed by a talk-back session with the artist. Ifrah Mansour is a Somali multimedia artist, performer, and teacher in Minneapolis, who uses art to bridge cultures and generations. Her work has been seen at the State Fair and Northern Spark festival. "How to Have Fun in a Civil War" was previously mounted at the Guthrie Theater and the Children's Theatre Company.
This performance is best enjoyed by ages 6 and up. Performances made possible by a 2018 Knight Challenge Grant.
