Each month through March, watch a different thought-provoking film and engage in community discussion afterward around topics in history that resonate today. In November, view a documentary about the North Carolina string band, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, the banjo's African origins, and the history of how blacks and whites collaborated to create the earliest forms of American popular music.
The film will be followed by a conversation with director John Whitehead.
This film series is a partnership between the Minnesota Historical Society, the Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul, and the Capri Theater. This program is made possible by the Legacy Amendment's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008.
