Hear from MNHS Press author Mary Krugerud about the story of Marilyn Barnes and her new book The Girl in Building C: The True Story of a Teenage Tuberculosis Patient.

When 16-old Marilyn Barnes was told that she had tuberculosis, she thought her stay at Ah-gwah-ching State Sanatorium at Walker would be brief. It took three years. Luckily, Marilyn liked to write. She penned hundreds of letters to the family she missed, vividly describing roommates, treatments, staff, and the singular experience of being a teenager surviving TB in Minnesota in the 1940s.
