Sibley House Program Development and Interpretive Intern

This internship is broken into two categories. First, the intern will interpret the site’s history for site visitors. This includes, for example, providing tours. Second, the intern will work with the Sibley Historic Site Supervisor to determine a program to develop that will aid in the diversification of interpretive opportunities for site visitors.

  • Ability to use Google Hangouts or Zoom.
  • Weekend availability.
Student Responsibilities

Front End/Interpretive Role

  • Lead engaging tours at the Sibley Historic Site for school and community groups, the public, and event attendees.
  • Assist in the execution of special events and programing.
  • Assist with rental events to ensure guests have positive and stress-free experiences.
  • May be required to assist with the museum gift shop.
  • Engage, lead, and support volunteers.

Project Role

  • Must develop a Sibley Historic Site oriented program or project. Interns have the flexibility to choose what type of program they wish to develop. Some program development opportunities are exhibits, tours, events, or a publication.
  • Conduct research utilizing resources available on-site and off-site.
  • Provide a comprehensive list of resources that were utilized while conducting research for future use.
Knowledge Intern is expected to gain
  • Increased awareness of the operations of a historic site. 
  • Project development and management.
  • Conducting research in a professional setting.
  • Experience in the interpretation of historical material for public consumption. 
  • Greater understanding of how the public interacts to historic materials.
