Intern will lead the documentation of architectural finishes, FF&E finishes, and attic stock inventory with oversight of Facility Workspace Planner & Designer. The intern will also document standards for future architectural finishes, FF&E finishes, and furniture layouts. Assist Facility Workspace Planner & Designer with various day-to-day office update tasks and design decisions.

Student Qualifications
  • Ability to read, assess, and draw in AutoCAD and BlueBeam Revu
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite & Google Suite
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work well independently and take individual initiatives 
  • Ability to perform manual tasks such as measuring, drawing, handwriting, and searching through plans and documents
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • General understanding of Building and Life Safety Codes
Student Responsibilities

Architectural Finish Documentation 

  • Create finish plans for architectural building finishes in public facing and back of house areas (Wall Finish and Floor Finish). 
  • Create a finish schedule documenting each finish type, location(s), year installed, and estimated replacement-cycle. 
  • Label physical finish samples in our material library for easy reference.
  • Sort, label, and document attic stock of architectural finishes for easy reference.

FF&E Documentation 

  • Update existing Minnesota History Center Equipment Inventory document with furniture manufacturer, model, finishes, year, and estimated replacement-cycle for incoming furniture.
  • Review MHC Equipment Inventory document for discrepancies and needed updates.
  • Update Furniture Plan when new furniture layouts are completed or if not already documented.

Standardization

  • Assist with developing standardization of architectural finishes, furniture finishes, and office layouts.
  • Assemble packet of FF&E provided by Facilities for MHC staff and MNHS historic site partners to select from or gather ideas. 
Knowledge Intern is expected to gain
  • Gain familiarity with planning and design documents using industry accepted methods and standards
  • First hand experience in reviewing installed architectural materials and contract-grade furniture, including the specification, purchasing, and condition assessment
  • Improved personal and professional communication skills
Additional Requirements

Digital Design/Project Portfolio, showcasing Commercial, Corporate, or Historic settings.
