History and science come together in a day of family activities focusing on the role of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) in the past and present of the Minneapolis riverfront. 

Enjoy the following activities in the free areas of the museum:

  • Witness a flour dust explosion and learn the science behind the Washburn A Mill explosion of 1878.
  • Discover Minnesota inventors and inventions.
  • Invent a solution to a mill problem using K'nex.
  • Try the Simple Machines artifact challenge.
  • Do simple science experiments on everyday flour.
  • Try making mechanical and hydroelectricity using interactive models.
  • Examine Minnesota fossils and make a model fossil to take home.

Visitors are required to wear a face covering indoors.
