Featuring James Ellis

“Photography and Art at the Rock,” a rotating monthly exhibit in the lobby of the visitor center at Split Rock Lighthouse, showcases landscape and wildlife photographers and artists of the area. 

Our featured artist for the month of March is James Ellis.

Meet James and talk with him about his work and approach. His art will be on display at the visitor center from March 2 through March 31.

Artist biography: James Ellis
As an artist and steward of nature's pristine landscapes, James resolves to preserve and place on canvas, his interpretation and perception of God's creation. The natural beauty of the landscape is ever changing, its character altered by weather, the sun and the waves. The North Shore of Lake Superior is a special place to James, and he has spent countless hours over the past twenty years exploring the shoreline, hiking the trails and camping in the State Parks.
