This position is ideal for candidates who are passionate about social justice and dedicated to preserving and amplifying the voices of historically marginalized communities. We are seeking a Production Assistant Intern with a strong interest in history, archival research, and storytelling, particularly within the fields of film production, journalism, historical documentation, or media research. The intern will play a key role in locating and organizing archival materials from Saint Paul in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, including photographs, videos, newspaper articles, and news clips (both local and national).
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, resourceful, and eager to learn about asset documentation and media organization.

Student Qualifications

Strong interest in history, archival research, media documentation, and storytelling.
Basic research skills and ability to identify credible sources for archival material.
Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Word, and other organizational tools.
Strong attention to detail and ability to organize large amounts of information.
Self-motivated, able to work independently, and meet deadlines.
Interest in film, media production, or journalism is a plus.
Background in History, Journalism, Media Studies, Film Production, or Archival Science (not required but beneficial).
Experience working with archives, libraries, or research databases.
Familiarity with local Saint Paul history is a plus.
 

Student Responsibilities

Research & Archive Collection
Conduct extensive research to locate archival materials (photographs, videos, newspaper articles, and news clips) related to Saint Paul from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
Identify reputable sources, including libraries, online archives, historical societies, and news organizations.
Organize and catalog found materials for future use.
Asset Documentation & Organization
Learn and assist with asset management and documentation processes for historical materials.
Maintain organized digital records of research findings, sources, and licensing details when applicable.
Assist in creating an easy-to-navigate archive for the production team
 

Knowledge Intern is expected to gain

Hands-on experience in archival research and documentation for a media production project.
Exposure to the production process and asset management in a professional setting.
Credited on a professional documentary production.
An opportunity to contribute to a historically significant media project.
Potential for future opportunities with Film Production Company based on performance.
 

Additional Requirements

Please note this intern will also work at the Black Youth Healing Arts Center in St. Paul, MN.
