About This Event
Take a guided walking tour of LGBTQIA+ community spaces in Downtown Minneapolis. Visit a selection of the sites highlighted in the recent exhibit, Going Out, Coming In: LGBTQ+ Spaces in Downtown Minneapolis. A portion of the exhibit will be on display before and after the tour.
LGBTQ+ spaces often manifested in discreet semi-public spaces. In these spaces LGBTQ+ people met each other and explored and developed their identities through community. More than places to socialize, these were places for LGBTQ+ people to belong. The Going Out, Coming In Tour will share the stories of Minneapolis’ LGBTQ communities that survived despite the destruction of multiple historic safe havens. Hear stories of love and community throughout the twentieth century.
The tour includes about 2 miles of moderately-paced walking with ramps and stairs. Guests also have the opportunity to purchase GOCI branded merchandise in the museum store. Tour ticket does not include museum admission, but tour attendees can purchase half-priced museum tickets same-day.
