About This Event
Join us to learn from artist Alberta Warwas. Alberta will highlight her quillwork, one of her many artistic skills! Alberta Warwas is a tribal member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Migizi (Eagle) Clan, and an artist based in Northern Minnesota. She expresses her art through a variety of Indigenous art forms, including beadwork, birchbark work, pine needle, porcupine quill, leather, textile, and rawhide.
Alberta was taught beadwork by her mother, who was taught by Alberta’s grandmother. She has also been blessed over the years to learn from many Indigenous artists who are passing their knowledge to others. Her artwork has been featured at the Northwoods Friends of the Arts Gallery, the Anishinaabe Art Festival, and the Woodland Indian Art Show and Market. She has begun the work of passing cultural knowledge to the next generations by hosting events at the local school for Native students and by teaching her own children.
