About This Event
Pickling was one of the most important ways food could be preserved for the survival of a rural family in the mid-19th century. Many foods grown over the summer can start to be stored away as they come out of the garden. Come learn how pickles played an important role in the diet of people living in the 19th century.
Step into the Learning Kitchen and sample what a 19th century pickle would have tasted like, and participate in the process of making pickles the way it was done 150 years ago. For a small fee, visitors can make a jar of refrigerator pickles to take home.
