About This Event

Join us for North Star Voices, a Thursday evening series that brings Minnesota’s remarkable people, places, and stories to life in a relaxed, social setting. Grab a drink, connect with fellow history and culture enthusiasts, and settle in for an engaging conversation about the people and ideas that have shaped our state.

This April, author Joseph Whitson celebrates the release of Urban Trails: Twin Cities, an inviting guide to exploring the natural and cultural landscapes of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Through stories of accessible outdoor spaces, layered histories, and Indigenous heritage, Whitson offers fresh ways to connect with familiar places and experience the Twin Cities more deeply.

The evening will feature Joseph Whitson in conversation with Jacob Rorem, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Copies of Urban Trails: Twin Cities will be available for purchase. Pay-what-you-will with a $10 suggested ticket price.

North Star Voices takes place in the Education Wing on Thursday evenings, offering an opportunity to enjoy history, conversation, and community in a casual “history happy hour” atmosphere. Doors open at 6:00 pm, with a cash bar on site.

Joe Whitson is a lifelong Minnesotan and outdoor enthusiast whose work is deeply invested in ethical recreation and environmental justice. He has developed environmental justice material for museums and park services and in addition to Urban Trails: Twin Cities, is the author of Marketing the Wilderness: Outdoor Recreation, Indigenous Activism, and the Battle over Public Lands.
