Join the Minnesota Historical Society at the Grand Theatre in Madison for a special screening of The Last Entry, a rare piece of Minnesota film history.
In 1932, a fortunate few attended the glittering premiere of The Last Entry, a crime thriller that won an international award for amateur film. Unlike other films of the genre, such as Sherlock Holmes and The Phantom of Crestwood, The Last Entry was filmed on location in Minnesota, featuring local talent and the work of a local amateur filmmaker.
This 16mm treasure, preserved in the MNHS Collections, was directed by James Ford Bell Jr., who would later become CEO of the Red Owl supermarket chain. His brother, Charles, handled the film’s lighting and would later serve as CEO of General Mills.
Experience this remarkable piece of Minnesota’s cinematic past with live piano accompaniment by Sandy Waterman. The program begins at 2:00 pm on November 14 and is pay-what-you-will with a $10 suggested ticket price.
