"The Safe Space" Macalester Screening
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
130 S Macalester Street, St. Paul, Minnesota, 55105
About This Event
Join us for a special screening of Episode 1 of The Safe Space at Macalester College, followed by a community conversation exploring the film's themes of identity, belonging, healing, and social justice. Through reflection, conversation, and theatre-based activities, led by Jan Mandell and Eliza Rasheed, workshop participants will consider how our individual stories intersect with larger questions about community.
The Safe Space is a limited documentary series following the powerful journey of Central Touring Theater (CTT), a visionary program founded by Jan Mandell in 1978 in St. Paul, MN. For over 35 years, CTT empowered youth to transform their struggles into raw, authentic theater. This film features exclusive footage spanning three decades, offering a behind-the-scenes look at class sessions, performances, and personal stories of resilience. With interviews from notable alumni, it highlights CTT’s lasting impact on its students and the community.
Doors open: 4:45 pm
Documentary Screening: 5 pm-6 pm
Workshop: 6:45 pm - 8 pm (capacity of 30, email engagement@mnhs.org to register)
This event takes place at the Mairs Concert Hall (inside the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center).
