Photography & Art at the Rock is a monthly exhibit in the lobby of the Split Rock Lighthouse Visitor Center that showcases local artists, landscape, and wildlife photographers of the area.

For the month of September our featured artist is Tom Spence. Spence’s show will run from September 1 -30. He will be onsite September 2, 23, and 30 from 11 am - 2 pm.

The North Shore and Tofte have been home for Tom Spence since 1994. Gathering years of inspiration from the shore to the woods, the BWCA, Superior National Forest, the surrounding State Parks and forests led to a desire to capture and share some of the intimate moments encountered along the way through photography. From the wildlife lurking deep in the North Shore woods to the waves, cliffs, and crystal clear waters of Lake Superior, Tom hopes through his imagery to evoke a sense of longing for and a desire to return to an area so special to many. The images may even inspire someone who has never visited to embark on their North Shore discovery. Tom Spences wildlife and Lake Superior photography has been published nationally and regionally in print and online.
