The history of portraiture is an interesting one. Before the invention of photography, portraits were some of the only ways to capture a person’s likeness. When that changed, artists were able to experiment with different styles and techniques that expressed much more than a person's outside appearance.

Join Brian Szott, Manager of Curatorial Affairs, in a conversation with artists Leslie Barlow and Xavier Tavera. Explore the portraits in Art Speaks. What can we learn from these pieces? What stories do we have about the subjects?

Attend this program in-person at the Minnesota History Center. Included with the price of admission.

This program is made possible by the Charles A. Lindbergh Fund.
