About This Event

The Minnesota History Center is showcasing a number of unique items from the MNHS collections in an exhibit entitled The Stories We Keep. This exhibit features 25 objects from MNHS collections—a rich trove built on the generosity and foresight of thousands of people who have entrusted MNHS with their belongings and their stories.

To celebrate the exhibit, the Minnesota History Center has partnered with the Saint Paul Public Library to host a book club featuring Precious and Adored by Lizzie Ehrenhalt and Tilly Laskey. Precious and Adored highlights the correspondence between Rose Cleveland, sister of President Grover Cleveland, and Evangeline Simpson, a wealthy widow who would become the second wife of Henry Whipple, Minnesota's Episcopal bishop. The women corresponded across states and continents, discussing their advocacy and humanitarian work - and demonstrating their sexual attraction, romance, and partnership.

Join us at the Minnesota History Center on Thursday, March 5 for a conversation with author Lizzie Ehrenhalt and learn more about this portrayal of nineteenth-century LGBTQ history, followed by a visit Gale Family Library staff to see original letters from the MNHS collections. Light refreshments provided during the conversation. Registration is required.
