About This Event
Experience the warmth and wonder of A Gilded Age Christmas at the iconic Summit Avenue mansion of James J. Hill. Immerse yourself in the holiday traditions and celebrations of the family and domestic staff inside one of Minnesota's grandest historic homes.
This year the tour features new rooms and familiar stories about the Gilded Age Social Season and how the holiday traditions at the house were shaped by both the domestic staff and the Hill family. As they returned to their primary home for winter, the Hill family would spend time with friends and family at exclusive events such as dinners, balls, operas, and formal receptions—planning and hosting such events as well! Meanwhile, the busier the social season, the even busier the staff at Hill House, preparing many course meals, keeping the house shining and warm for family and guests.
