Manuscripts Collection
Women
The Society's holdings are particularly strong in women's history. Special projects in the 1970s and 1980s insured the identification of material relating to women "hidden" in older collections, and focused efforts to collect contemporary papers and records. Farmers, educators, artists, politicians, servants, homemakers, professionals, judges, environmentalists, writers, and others are represented in our holdings. From the anonymous to the famous, from 19th century pioneers to 20th century diplomats, from personal diaries to the non-current records of major organizations, these manuscripts collections document the evolution of women's lives, roles, and accomplishments. A very condensed list of some of the Society's women's history collections is presented below.
