Training/Experience: Shaheen Christie, Ph.D., RPA serves as a Staff Archaeologist in Cultural Resources with Terracon Consultants, Inc. Shaheen has nine years of archaeological compliance experience and has been a consultant on numerous archaeological projects in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Michigan, as well as internationally across Europe. The work performed in the Midwest has been in compliance with various State Antiquities Codes, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Shaheen has successfully led and completed Phase I archaeological projects with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and has participated in Phase I-III archaeological projects with numerous other agencies and Clients. Typical tasks performed as a Staff Archaeologist include proposal development and writing field reports, conducting background literature reviews, records research, directing and performing fieldwork tasks, applying for state licenses and permits, and coordination with State or Federal agencies, as needed. Shaheen meets the qualifications for the Secretary of the Interior’s (SOI) Standards and Guidelines for Prehistoric and Historic Archaeology under 36 CFR 61. She can conduct archaeological burial monitoring during excavations to identify, photograph, collect, and transfer skeletal remains, if encountered. Shaheen is qualified to liaise with local Tribal Leaders in accordance with states policies. If necessary, Shaheen is qualified to perform analysis of human remains, including identification of sex, age, pathological conditions, and traumatic injuries. Shaheen is also experienced in the identification of taphonomic changes in bone caused by human and animal activity as well as natural weathering processes across diverse environmental conditions.
