Recent State Archives Acquisitions: December 2007
A number of research topics are represented this month in records added to the State Archives collection, including public health, campaign finance, land assessment, and protection of the natural environment.
Litigation files (1960-1986) received from the Attorney General’s office cover a number of cases, including the Reilly Tar Chemical Corporation industrial plant pollution, the City of Brainerd’s reluctance to comply with state regulations on the fluoridation of city water, and a toxic shock syndrome study the State of Minnesota participated in. Most of the litigation files complement existing case files already in the State Archives. Other records included in the transfer are Administrative rules proceedings (1973-1990) concerning acupuncture, the Board of Medical Examiners, health maintenance organizations, hearing instrument dispensers and sellers licensing, and intermediate care facilities.
The Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board transferred campaign finance files (2004 terminations) that continue existing series, plus conciliation agreements and findings (1974-2003), and advisory opinions (1974-1993) that are new series and date back to when the Board was established in 1974.
Water and Soil Resources Board meeting minutes and agenda packets (1998-2003) continue an existing set of records that date back to the 1960s; documenting the state’s efforts to protect the natural environment is a collecting priority of the State Archives.
Family historians will be pleased to use Plaintiff’s Indexes (1872-1981) transferred by the Carlton County District Court. This is a key record that allows access to other Carlton County court records, specifically the civil and criminal case files, already preserved in the State Archives.
The Douglas County Assessor’s Office transferred meeting minutes (1990-1996) of the county Equalization Board, that include complaints, inquiries and the action taken regarding property assessment issues, such as the classification or valuation of property, and changes in the assessment of property.
