Minnesota State Archives

Recent State Archives Acquisitions: February 2011

Background Information

This month’s most significant addition to the State Archives is the records of Governor Tim Pawlenty.  The records (dated 2003-2010) include chronological correspondence, administrative rules files, appointment files, state agency/board reports, legal counsel files, subject files, executive orders, resolution and chapter files, state agency correspondence, State of the State addresses, photographs, daily schedules, press releases, and audio cassettes of the governor’s WCCO radio show.

Of special interest is correspondence concerning the aftermath of the I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis, and files regarding the 2005 state government shutdown and the 2010 unallotment issue.

For the first time, significant digital files were received from the governor’s office, including digital photographs of Governor Pawlenty and the First Lady, plus selected audio and video digital files of radio interviews, conference calls and speeches; these digital records are available on-line via the Library catalog.

State Archives staff worked closely with Collections Management Department staff to process and catalog the paper and electronic records for prompt public access and use.  Governor Pawlenty’s records are accessible via the Library catalog.

Added to the rich collection of Grand Army of the Republic/Department of Minnesota records preserved in the State Archives, is the commission document of Charles H. Hodge as Aide de Camp (dated 1892).  Also included is genealogical information about the Hodge family.  The document was donated by descendants of Charles H. Hodge.

A variety of records (dated 1860s-2009) were received from the Human Services Department/State Operated Services Division that pertains to the state hospitals in St. Peter, Moose Lake, Brainerd and Rochester.  All of the records will be useful for family history research, and inter-file with existing sets of records already preserved in the State Archives.

Of unique interest, are summer concert band programs (dated 1922-1926, 1931) of the Fred G. Albrecht Concert Band performances held at Como Park and Phalen Park.  The programs were donated by a private donor.  The programs will be added to other selected records of the City of St. Paul Park Board.
