Recent State Archives Acquisitions: July 2011
Background Information
A variety of research topics are represented in government records added this month to the State Archives collection.
The Minnesota agricultural industry is very important to Minnesota, the state Agriculture Department transferred records that continue existing Agriculture Department records already preserved in the State Archives, including corporate farm files for corporate farms dissolved between 2003-2005, Commissioner Gene Hugoson’s newsletter columns, (dated 2004-2008), and selected published records and reports (dated 2000-2008).
Useful for family and community history research are records received from the Cass County Auditor including school district consolidation and reorganization files (dated 1903-1969), and school district bond files (dated 1942-1974).
Health care costs and services are contemporary issues, and to help document these issues the State Archives collects selected records from the Minnesota Health Department. Added to the collection this month are Minnesota health plans’ collaboration and action plan updates (dated 2005-2009) that continue an existing set of records dating back to 1994. The action plans describe the practices and procedures of the companies and how those procedures impact the health of the whole community. The collaboration plans describe the actions the company intends to take to achieve public health goals for its service areas. The plans are developed in collaboration with the local public health units, appropriate regional coordinating boards, and other community organizations providing health services in the same service area as the health plan company.
Documenting the Minnesota Legislature is a collecting priority of the State Archives, and recently the former administrator for the Senate Finance Committee transferred selected subject files (dated 1977-1985), including correspondence, copies of legislation, copies of committee minutes, press releases, newspaper clippings, and related records. The records include information about state government appropriations, bonding, Native American liquor licensing, and the special legislative sessions of 1981 and 1982. These records complement the official set of Senate Finance Committee minutes already preserved in the State Archives.
The Todd County District Court transferred indexes and registers (dated 1873-1955) that will enhance access to the Todd County District Court civil and criminal case files already preserved in the State Archives.
