Recent State Archives Acquisitions: July 2013
Substantial records, in quantity and quality, were added to the State Archives this month.
The inaugural ball program (dated January 12, 1991) of Governor Arne Carlson was added to the governor’s records preserved in the State Archives collection. The governor’s records are fairly comprehensive, but this item was not present in the collection.
A former Minneapolis School District employee donated a number of published records and reports (undated, 1961-1997) of the school district. The records concern student information systems, desegregation and other topics regarding the district’s operations and policies; inter-file with, and continue, an existing of records preserved in the State Archives collection.
In preparation for the renovation of the State Capitol, the House Chief Clerk’s Office transferred over 300 boxes of House Bills (dated 1993-2010) from a storage room in the State Capitol basement, which will be renovated as part of the building’s three year renovation project. The House Bills continue the existing set dating from 1957.
Another sizable unit of records was received from the Revenue Department Commissioner’s Office; it’s been over ten years since the department transferred any significant records to the State Archives. The records (dated 1983-2010) include selected subject files and correspondence of Commissioners Matthew Smith, Dennis Erno and Dan Salomone; Assistant Commissioners Jack Mansun, Jenny Engh and Raymond Krause; and Chief Information Officer Steve Stedman. Also, published records and reports of the department. The records document the major functions, activities, decisions, and policies of the department, and concern such topics as income and property taxation, tax reform, legislation, and special projects and initiatives. The records continue existing records preserved in the State Archives collection.
