Recent State Archives Acquisitions: July 2009
Background Information
Records added this month to the State Archives help document important functions of the State of Minnesota, and will be useful for family history research. Education Department published records and reports (dated 1915-2001) enhance an existing series in the State Archives, and help document the delivery of K-12 education to Minnesota’s children. Useful for family history research are maternity home records (dated 1943-1958) of the Iverson Maternity Home which was in Echo, Minnesota. The home was operated by Carrie Iverson, and her grandson recently donated the records. The records have restricted access, and complement an existing set of maternity home records.
Valuable for family history research are divorce indexes (dated 1970-1995) and marriage indexes (dated 1958-1995) on microfiche that were transferred by the Minnesota Health Department. The divorce indexes (SAF 16) and marriage indexes (SAF 15) are for divorces and marriages that took place statewide, and were added to the State Archives collection and cataloged two years ago, but not formally accessioned. Also useful for family history research are Parent Teacher Association records (1927-1987) for the Robert A. Smith and North End Elementary Schools; the records include scrapbooks, photographs and a minute book. The Robert A. Smith Elementary School and the Rice Elementary School merged in 1971 to become the North End Elementary School.
The Supreme Court transferred a set of administrative orders (dated 1974-2002) and concern the court rules for the State of Minnesota judicial system regarding such topics as cameras in the courtroom, civil and criminal procedures, redistricting of judicial districts, continuing legal education, professional conduct, access to public records, and other topics concerning the policies, operations, and conduct of Minnesota’s courts. Also included are supporting records, such as hearing documents, orders, reports, rules, correspondence, transcripts, and other records.
