Recent State Archives Acquisitions: March 2011

Background Information

Records added this month to the State Archives will be particularly useful for family history research, and will greatly enhance access to records already preserved in the State Archives.  With the assistance of the Collections Management Department, the Becker County and Stearns County records listed below are now (or soon will be) fully cataloged, shelved, and ready for use by researchers.

Assessment rolls, various school records, and a marriage record were received from Becker County.

Received from the Human Services Department are Commissioner’s Logged Letters (dated 2006-2008) that continue an existing set already preserved in the State Archives.

Two significant acquisitions were received from the Stearns County District Court.  First, civil (1966-1984) and criminal (1969-1979) registers of action, plaintiff and defendant indexes to civil (1940-1984) and criminal (1845-1984) case files of the District Court; indexes to probate case files (1871-1984) of the Probate Court;  minute book (1918-1927) of the Juvenile Court.   The indexes and registers of action will enhance access to Stearns County civil, criminal, and probate case files already preserved in the State ArchivesSecond, microfilm of birth certificates (dated 1916-1982), death certificates (dated 1916-1982), marriage certificates (undated, 1916-[1980]), with indexes; and Probate Court case files (dated 1890s-1960s) will be of tremendous use to family historians.

Finally, Todd County transferred meeting minutes (dated 1934-1995) of the Welfare Board, which include minutes of the Emergency Relief Board which was established during the Great Depression to provide public assistance aid.
