Location: Split Rock Lighthouse

TWO HARBORS, Minn. (June 24, 2025) – An iconic North Shore view is being restored as the scaffolding around Split Rock Lighthouse is coming down! Preservation work at the historic site is wrapping up with important improvements made to the structure so it can continue to welcome visitors for years to come.

A new sensor system will allow the lighthouse to better regulate moisture levels inside the structure. Cosmetic restorations were also completed.

Guests can enjoy Split Rock at no cost this Saturday, June 27, during the Minnesota Historical Society’s Free Admission Day. The free upcoming Keeper’s View open house on July 31 will also celebrate the completion of preservation work and include a beacon lighting in celebration of the site’s 116th anniversary.

Split Rock Lighthouse is currently open to the public daily from 10 am to 6 pm. During the summer season, Conquering the Cliff Tours are offered four times daily and Keeper’s Tours are offered on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 9 am.

A live view of crews removing the scaffolding around the lighthouse is available online.
