Become a Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Minnesota Historical Society!

Application Process

Check the Volunteer Opportunities page for current openings.
Once you find an opening that looks interesting to you, complete an Online Application to let us know about your interests, experience, availability.
We will contact you and schedule a time to chat.
After an interview with us in Volunteer Services, we will reach out to your references and request a background check.
Once your references and background check come back and you are cleared to volunteer, we will connect you with the MNHS staff member who supervises your placement.

If you are over 18, you will be required to complete a background check authorization, which will require your Social Security Number, your birth date and prior residence. MNHS covers the cost.

Please note you must be at least 14 years old to be an MNHS Volunteer.
