Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Launching, landing, or operating remotely piloted aircraft (UAS) within the Split Rock Lighthouse Historic Site is prohibited in accordance with Minnesota Historical Society policy.

Any exclusions to this policy are granted in writing by the site manager or the manager’s appointee.

Request to Fly Unmanned Aerial Vehicles at Split Rock Lighthouse

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle flights at Split Rock Lighthouse may only be conducted at the following times:

  • Mondays through Thursdays from 8-9:30 am or 30 minutes after close
  • Fridays through Sundays from 8-9 am or 30 minutes after close.

A staff member must be present during the operation of the unmanned aerial vehicle. Operator must provide proof of insurance on the day of the flight. Requests must be made at least 10 days in advance.

After the request is submitted, a staff member will reach out to you to coordinate a flight.
