Split Rock Lighthouse.

What to See and Do

Choose your adventure

Guests are encouraged to explore Split Rock Lighthouse at their own pace. If you are just driving further up the shore and want to get that famous picture or if you are really wanting to geek out over the brass vent plates in the Lighthouse, experiences are available for all guests!

Just like the seasons change, so does our programming. So make sure you visit our hours and admissions page to see what offerings are available at the time of your visit.

General admission.

General admission

This self-guided experience is our main way to experience the site. With this admission you are admitted into the Visitor Center, Historic Grounds, and have access to the interior of the Lighthouse and Keeper's House. Interact with our program staff, marvel at the original Fresnel lens at the top of the tower, or learn about the rugged life of Lighthouse Keeper's and their families.

Grounds pass.

Grounds pass

This self-guided experience is designed for the guests that have limited time and just want to stop and get close to the Lighthouse. With this pass you are admitted into the Visitor Center and the Historic Grounds. You do not have access to the interior of the Lighthouse or the Keeper's House. Explore the trails around the Light Station and grab that picture.

Conquering the cliff.

Conquering the cliff tour

This 60-minute guided tour takes guests around the site to learn about the challenges people faced while building and living on the isolated cliff that is home to Split Rock Lighthouse. During this tour, visitors will explore what it took to build, supply, and reside at the light station during its first 24 years of operation. It wasn’t a quick trip to the grocery store! While this tour does not take you into the Lighthouse or Keeper’s Home, you can explore the buildings on your own after the tour.

Keepers tour.

Keeper's tour

During this 60-minute guided tour, experience the site like the Keeper's and their families did and immerse yourself in their stories. During the main season this tour takes place before the site opens and during the shoulder season it happens during the day when the buildings are closed. The tour includes the lighthouse and keeper’s house, plus general admission access. Limit of 10 people per tour.
