Twin Cities
Discover eight totally different history adventures just minutes from Minneapolis and St. Paul: from 1820s-style military drills, to a state-of-the-art recreation of a tornado, to a tour through a magnificent Gilded Age mansion. Each destination is easy to combine with local shopping, dining and other downtown attractions
  Up to the North Shore
Ready for a road trip? Our North Shore area covers a lot of ground, from Folsom House and Marine Mill not far from the Twin Cities, to Split Rock Lighthouse, situated high above the waters of beautiful Lake Superior. In between, stop in Pine City for a visit to a reconstructed 19th century fur post and Ojibwe encampment. There are lots of great lodging and camping options along the way.

River Bluff Country
Travel back in time as you explore the sites of our southernmost region. You'll discover the homes of early settlers and towns of old, agency outposts, battlefields of the U.S.-Dakota War, and hidden rock outcroppings where ancient petroglyphs tell the story of life on this land more than 5,000 years ago. Scattered throughout Minnesota's southern quarter, these sites make excellent weekend trips, or stops along the way to more far-off destinations.
  North Woods
Leave city life farther and farther behind as you trek north through the center of the state. Work on the farm -- 1860's style -- at the Oliver H. Kelley Farm, visit the boyhood home of aviator and environmentalist Charles A. Lindbergh, deepen your understanding of the lives and culture of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, then experience what life was like in a turn-of-the-century logging camp at the beautiful Forest History Center. Each site offers plenty to do, and wonderful settings in which to simply relax.

Search for images carved into a red quartzite rock ridge thousands of years ago. Hear the tales of chamber maids working in the first territorial governor's Victorian mansion. Marvel at the beauty of a historic lighthouse on the shore of Lake Superior. These experiences and more await you at the Minnesota Historical Society's historic sites.

Hours and programs at many sites have changed. Please check the individual site page or call the site for hours and admission fees.
