FRITZ: The Walter Mondale Story Preview
FRITZ is a documentary about the life and legacy of former Vice President Walter "Fritz" Mondale and his efforts to encourage a new generation to consider a life of public service. Interviews with Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Geraldine Ferraro, Arne Carlson, colleagues, friends, students and the Mondale family reveal a man who believes that politics and public service can build bridges rather than barriers. This film features never before seen family home videos, rare archival footage and recently declassified papers from the Vice President’s years in the White House. FRITZ is narrated by Eleanor Mondale and directed by award-winning filmmaker Melody Gilbert (Urban Explorers, A Life Without Pain, Whole).
There's never been a documentary film about Mondale. FRITZ is a tribute to the spirit of Walter Mondale and his life of leadership in equal rights, fair housing, and respect of individuals around the globe. It will also inspire its viewers to see public service as the honorable profession. It’s the perfect time to honor this great Minnesotan by supporting his commitment to helping young people – our future leaders – to see public service as a noble way to make a difference.
FRITZ will premiere on October 16th, 2008, at the Minnesota History Center as part of the Moving Pictures Film Festival. The film will be distributed to libraries throughout the state and will become part of the Minnesota Historical Society’s Mondale archives. To continue inspiring young people, DVDs and classroom discussion guides will be distributed to teachers to stimulate valuable – and hopefully life-changing – discussions.
FRITZ will be broadcast on Twin Cities Public Television in fall, 2008
