Web browser access

It is not supported for use on Internet Explorer or Firefox. The browser version functions optimally in portrait mode (vertical orientation).

How do I access the Northern Lights Interactive eBook in a web browser?

Enter into your device’s web browser. Click or tap the login icon found at the top or bottom of the screen to enter username and password. Use the login provided by your school. Be sure to double check spelling and capitalization.

iPad app access

The Northern Lights Interactive eBook is hosted within the MNHS Education app for iPads. This app was updated to version 3.1 on August 31, 2021. Please make sure you are using the most current version of the app. The app is optimized for iOS11-iOS14 (versions of Apple’s operating system). It is functional in iOS10, but not optimal. The iPad app functions optimally in portrait mode (vertical orientation).

How do I access the Northern Lights Interactive eBook in the iPad app?

You first need to load the free MNHS Education app, which contains the Northern Lights Interactive eBook, onto your iPad. Find the app store on your iPad, search "mnhs education" and download the app, or go here.

Schools/districts may install the iPad app on devices in different ways. It may be mirrored out using a Mobile Device Management (MDM) system, or the app may be installed manually on iPads.

Once the MNHS Education app has been downloaded onto a device, open the app and tap the log in icon found at the bottom of the screen. Use the username and password provided by your school to log in. Troubleshooting tips

I can't open chapters in the interactive eBook when accessing via the Chrome browser.

If you are experiencing trouble accessing the Northern Lights Interactive eBook on the Chrome browser, it may be because your Chrome browser’s settings block third-party cookies.

1. If you see an eye image with a line through it on the right end of the address bar, click on it.

2. A window will open. Click on “Site not working?”

3. Click on “Allow cookies.” This should solve the issue.

The username and password are not working.

School-purchased logins are required to access the Northern Lights Interactive eBook. Usernames and passwords may have capital letters and punctuation, so be sure to enter them exactly as provided.

Chapters are taking a long time to download/stream.

The Northern Lights Interactive eBook contains large video and audio files. Accessing the interactive eBook with a slow internet connection or at the same time on multiple devices may cause it to download and/or stream very slowly. Due to increased internet usage during the COVID-19 pandemic, internet speeds and usage in your area may also affect the download/stream speed of the interactive eBook.

If I don’t have a dedicated internet connection (WiFi), can I access the interactive eBook?

Yes, but access via a device’s cellular network (not WiFi) may use significant data as the videos and audio are large files.

I downloaded the MNHS Education app on my iPad, opened the Northern Lights Interactive eBook, and can see the chapters, but it says “Restricted Access” when I click/tap on a chapter.

“Restricted Access” means you have (downloaded and) opened the app, but you’re not logged in. Chapter content can only be accessed if a user is logged in and has downloaded a chapter.

I downloaded a chapter from the Northern Lights Interactive eBook onto my iPad app, but now it's gone.

If a chapter previously downloaded is no longer available, the device ran out of storage and the chapter download was deleted off your device. Interactive eBook chapters are large files and iPads have limited storage. Simply re-download the chapter to access the content. To preserve storage space on your iPad, limit the number of chapters downloaded at one time.
